FOLEY ARTIST & SOUND DESIGNER
LUIS SCHOEFFEND
ABOUT
The sounds, tones and noises that surround us every day have always fascinated Luis Schöffend: the rhythmic pattern of footsteps in a train station hall, dripping rain on leaves in the forest or the distant, shrill braking of an old train. What if we didn’t know the source of the sound through our experience? Couldn’t the crackling of the fire also be pattering rain or the crumpling of a sweet wrapper?
After his apprenticeship as a sound and lighting technician and various free music, sound and theater projects, Luis completed the „Film Sound/Sound Design“ studies at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, where he specialized in Foleys. Since 2015 he has been working as one of the founders at Neckarstudios, a sound studio collective specialized in sound and music for motion pictures and media.
Luis Schöffend works mainly as a Foley Artist on animated, fictional and documentary films, games, radio plays, occasionally also for theatre and live stage performances. As a sound designer, his work can be heard primarily in animated films and series, as well as in experimental formats.

In addition to the classic work with noises and sound design, he can create special sound effects from a wealth of experience and record, edit and contribute them in special recording techniques and formats (fire, underwater hydrophony, field recording 5.1, binaural).
The films and their sound design in which Luis has been involved have already won several awards, including the German Film Award („Lola, best sound design“) and at the Dresden Film Festival („Goldener Reiter, film sound“).
